Suggest Treatment For Pain Related To Trochanteric Bursitis Despite Taking Steroid Shots

I received steroid shots every 3months for trochanteriic bursitis with sciatica from my hip to my knee area for 8 years. Is there an other option for this horrible pain? I have been on Tramadol and fentanol patch with a bit of relief, for the last year, without steroid shots.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

Pain management is only to help suppress symptoms, hut the main approach is the find the cause for the sciatic pain. Like if there is a herniated disc, treat that; if there is any other spine related abnormality, treat that; if it has to do with weight, then advise weight loss; if it is to do with physical activity (e.g. long durations of sitting or standing) change that; etc. So speak to your doctor about treating the cause, and not the symptoms. As for pain management, I personally wouldn't advise using stronger medication sir/ma'am, because it is really not doing you any good in the long run.

Best wishes.
