Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Shin Bone

I hit my lower right shin on a chair really hard about four or five hours ago. I couldn't stand for about 5 or 6 minutes. It is now swollen in a hard bump form and it is blue with a red circle on the part that I hit. It hurts if I push on it or stand on one leg. Should I go and get an x-ray?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that due to traumatic injury there has been traumatic injury to the soft tissues of the shin leading to inflammation of soft tissues and there is also rupture of blood vessels secondary to trauma leading to spillage of blood into the soft tissues and leading to bruising and Hematoma formation..
The blue lump with red circle is due to hematoma formation..
As you are able to put weight over the shin for walking and there is pain only on pressing and standing on one leg, there does not seems like bony fracture..
Still for a confirmation, consult an Orthopedician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and x ray can help in diagnosis..
In case of bony fracture, reduction of fracture segments and fixation using cast or splint can help in healing..
In case if there is only soft tissue injury you can take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, apply heparin gel to reduce the bruising and regress hematoma faster..
You can elevate your leg while lying down..
Apply cool compresses over the swelling..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
