Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Lower Rib Cage

Bent over to pick a piece of lint up and got cramping shooting pains on left side of upper body from front lower rib cage to back lower shoulder blade the cramping shooting pain subsided however there is a dull pain which is still present lasting on left side. She had this same pain about 4 years ago and it left her unable to move because of the pain for an hour because she felt as if her breathing in her lungs was painful under her rib cage and left upper half. She claims to have had a CT Scan and it was negative, and an ultrasound of the abdomen and they were both negative. What could this be should I take her to the emergency room?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Pain that is caused by certain movement is generally muscular in nature. If a patient has damaged muscles in the chest wall, it may cause her to have problems with movements and also problems with breathing because chest muscles take part in breathing.

The fact that all tests come out normal support this.It is generally not serious and should be better with some paracetamol and ibuprofen and also physiotherapy.

I hope I have answered to your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
