Hi,

There are many causes of leg pain, If it is due to varicose veins then it should have improved.
Neurological pain is the commonest cause of leg pain in general. I would like to assess this by getting an MRI of L-S Spine and Blood levels of Vitamin B12.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Gopal Goel, Orthopaedic Surgeon

Hello, My mother is suffering from varicose vein for almost 12-14 years. Previously, it got fixed for that time after taking medication from doctor. She also tried medicinal tight socks and bandage around her leg in that affected area. But, now the medicine is failing to fix the issue. She has also recently consulted a vascular surgeon and he suggested to go with laser operation. But , the cost is too high. Can you please give me an idea about the operational cost or any other way around?

Hi my name is Jen, Why is Vein stripping so expensive for severe varicose veins? Is it done in public hospitals at all? When I had my second child in 1998 my legs were purple and a doctor who saw me said when I had finished having my family I should get my legs done. I paid to have my veins tied and stripped ten years ago when my youngest son was two. They have returned, over the last five year, more painfully than before and the look of the knotted veins are now worse than when I originally paid for the treatment. The cost is prohibitive for getting anything done as you have to find nearly $5000.00 before you can have the operation and then you will get only a small portion back through private health and Medicare. This is a disease that is making me old before my time and my job as a teacher is far more difficult than it should be for my age at under 50 still. I am trying to get children through school and pay a mortgage and do not have that amount and I am wondering why I have private health insurance at all. At least there would be some spare money each month to put towards illness. When I need the insurance I still can t have the operation as it is so expensive and you only get the money back after the event? Thanks for your time. Regards Jen

I am using under my doctor s advice Norspan 20 mg patches & Lyrica 75 mg. I have reduced my Norspan from 20mg plus 10 mg per week and Lyrica 600 mg daily to try to combat a feeling of constant tiredness, but to no effect. I am taking these drugs because of a diagnosis many years ago of CFS & Fibrimyalgia, not exacerbated by Spinal Stenosis an d collapsing Disks. A surgeon opperated on L#-$-% clamping rods to these vertebrae, but the pain has only become worse. I have CAD CABGs in 1981, 1997 & a Stent in 2006. I have some lung problems as well as complex Apneas. I have Atrial Fibrilation with my puilse rate jumping anywhere from 200 to 30 bpm. IO now have a pacemaker inserted to keep my lower level at about 70. I will bne 80 on Dec. 7 My Total Cholesterol is around 5.0 or lower (Au). I have Type II Diabetes. I am wondering is there is any prospect of my doctor prescribing any pain killers more effective than my current treatment. My BP is usually between 100 & 127 over between 50 & 60. I take a low dose (4mg) of perindopril. Regards Bill Pil;grim
