hi i have been diagnosed with philonidal cysts. i had one in june, it was not evident on the surface and was in hospital for 4 days due to the pain before it eventually burst and i was rushed into surgery. i was left with an open wound to heal fromn the inside out and it was re packed everyday with gauze. it healed in august and i went back to work thinking it was all over.
now sunday i was getting pain in that area, tuesday my GP gave me anti biotics, its now saturday and it has burst, i went to A&E and all they did was send me home with more aniti biotics and didnt even clean the wound for me. what do i do????

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Welcome to health care magic.

1.The history and symptoms suggest the recurrence of philonidal cyst with features of infective discharge.
2.It is seen in as a bad healing of the previous infection, can be due to inadequate post procedural care, medications and mobility and underlying medical conditions can be the causes.
3.In this case you need to approach a specialist / surgeon and proper investigate the condition and spread of the infection.
4.The complications in this case are fistulas opening internally to the bowel and so on - so needs to investigate and plane for surgery.
5.In can not be treated in ER as recurrence is possible - so please visit surgeon and get examined, treated accordingly.

Good luck.
