Hi,
Noted your short history about an accident that caused small bump on tibia, persistent pain and so on.
The small bump means there is collection of blood or edema under the periosteal layer of bone. Since the
periosteum is attached to the bone its separation can cause
severe pain and till it is absorbed the pain will continue.
Hence in such a case the role of an anti-inflammatory with painkiller like
Ibuprofen is very important and may need to take fora long time. So a PPI like
Omeprazole is also taken to avoid the gastric irritation.
Rest is important for the healing to occur, movements will delay absorption of blood or fluid thereby delaying the pain.
Get an X-ray of the tibia in two views to see if there is any hairline
fracture.
Consult an Orthopedic Surgeon to have proper evaluation and management as per the cause found.
Icing may not help in late stages, hot fomentation can.
It take time for such injury to settle so have patience too.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
