Suggest Treatment For Over Grown Ankle Bone

I am 51, male, pretty active physically. For the last year or so, I am having an ever growing problem with the inside of ankle bone on the right leg: but only when I rollerblade. The rollerblading trips are typically for 25 mi, twice or trice a week. What I am noticing is that this bone is substantially overgrown, it definitely much bigger than its left counterpart. And yes, the boot does press on the ankle bone. I do have a similar problem with the skiing boots, but it is much milder. Is there a surgery for that. Getting rid of the rollerblading would be the easiest solution, but it is currently a huge part of my life. Gazillions of thanks in advance!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is bursitis of medial malleolus caused by repeated stress or trauma. It heals with physiotherapy along with needful medication by an orthopedic surgeon.

Please consult the expert for judging it's extent &severity followed by advising plan of treatment. Till then it's better if you drop doing rollerblading to avoid stress and aggravation of the condition.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
