Suggest Treatment For Oral Thrush In An Infant

My daughter is 2 months old and has had thrush for over a month. She is no longer breastfed. Shes been on formula for the last month and a half. Her doctor has prescribed her nystatin and she has been on that for over a month. Ive been boiling all her nipples and pacifiers and wiping her mouth out after each feeding. Ive also tried giving her plain yogurt. I just started giving her gentain violet. It helps soothe her pain for a little bit but nothing is curing it. She has trouble eating because shes in so much pain. If im lucky she will eat 3 oz. When i know she can eat double that. I dont know what else to do. Please help !

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain oral thrush is an yeast infection and it occurs due to low level of immunity in infants and she has pain as the tongue must be inflamed due to infection causing soreness and discomfort..

I would first of all suggest you to give her more of mother's milk as it helps in improving immunity of the infant as it contains antibodies..
If it is not possible to breastfeed her you can use breast milk pump..

Other thing is that better feed her after her pain is reduced while giving gentian violet as she will have less soreness and will ease in eating..
Give her cool milk and other cool fluids only as it will be easier to take and will not be painful..

You can also do cool compresses over her tongue to reduce inflammation and pain..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
