Hi,

As far as my experience is concerned, bariatric surgeon is not a mandatory in the team of doctors who perform surgery on an obese female. But the thing is that, every doctor has got his/her own choices or preferences based on their past experiences.

So nobody can find fault in it but my suggestion is you can have a second opinion with a oncologic surgeon. Surgery is definitely necessary in her case but but bariatric consideration is questionable.

So, kindly consult an oncologist who would guide you better. Hope my answer helps you in clearing your doubts. I wish your daughter in law recovers at the earliest and to the fullest.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
