Suggest Treatment For Numbness In The Arms

My hands are very dry, wrinkled, cold, and appear blue (veins not distended, its like they have ruptured and were small..im 44 and have had no iv access in my hands or arms, even with dopler for sometime now (i have a chronic bowel problem which requires IV fluids sometimes, this is how I know..they have even had to put the iv into my neck or chest for fluids and then sometimes still have problems with blood return from these areas). It is also extended up the arms a bit. Numbness is present. Should I be concerned. My capillary refill is very very slow and fingertips appear a bit white. Sorry, I did not know you charged for this. Sorry for your time.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Usually, this is self-limiting and there is no specific cause but if this persists then various causes for arm numbness may persist like dehydration, diabetes, hypothyroidism, menopause, lack of B complex vitamins.

You may also have nerve compression problems which were suspected in your prior consultations which must have aggravated, however at what level it varies and needs clinical evaluation, with nerve conduction studies with or without MRI.

It is very common to get such types of numbness and pain in stress and in a deep anxiety state.

However, to be on the safe side, you should consult a doctor and get your cardiac status checked along with other relevant investigations for the causes as mentioned above.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
