Suggest Treatment For Nipple Soreness And Bleeding While Breastfeeding
My daughter is 7 days out from having her first baby and she is breastfeeding. She is having trouble with nipple soreness, bleeding along with engorgement because the baby sleeps quite a bit during the day but was up a lot last night. The pain is severe when she nurses. We ve read the remedies list online and from her breastfeeding consults. Can you give any other recommendations?

Breast feeding is associated with symptoms like pain in nipples, cracking of nipples, pain and bleeding.
These problems need to managed systematically.
Firstly, engorgement of breasts can be avoided by collecting milk with the help of a suction pump.
The milk collected can be given to your baby later.
Cracking of nipples and bleeding can be prevented by keeping the nipples.
Application of breast milk to the nipples helps to correct dryness and hence bleeding.
Continue this practice for couple of weeks and observe for cracking and bleeding. Ideally the cracks should heal after application of breast milk to the cracked nipples.

Hi!! Apply antibiotic steroid combination on the sore area of the nipples twice daily along with a moisturising cream on the entire breasts. For engorgement try to express milk after every 2-3 hour interval.
