General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Possibility of sinusitis with close-cavity infection that intermittently escapes to give phlegm. CT scan of nose and paranasal sinuses will help the best to get an exact cause. Tests of blood for CBC, sugar and as required. Clinical evaluation by an ENT Surgeon. Additional investigation and medicines as would be asked by an ENT Surgeon. Decongestant nasal drops. Steam Inhalation.

Symptomatic treatment with an anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen if it suits you. Avoid allergens, foods, beverages and any other factors that instigate or enhance the problems. Avoid contacts with people, particularly those with viral infection.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
