Suggest Treatment For Muscle Spasms That Interfere With Breathing In Someone Who Works At A Pesticide Factory

Someone, who works at a pesticide factory, comes to the clinic complaining of muscle spasms that interfere with his movements and breathing. A blood test shows that he has been contaminated with organophosphate pesticide, which is an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. How would you explain to him what this means?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

In such a case, I would explain that he has been intoxicated by the pesticides that he uses daily, probably by breathing or hand contact.

Another way to tell him, would be that he has been poisoned accidentally, by the drugs and toxins that he uses in the factory.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
