Suggest Treatment For Mild Stroke

My mom recently had a mild stroke. She is recovering and slowly getting movement back in her right side. She is suffering from belching--often hard/deep belches. She s never done this before. We assume it s an effect from the stoke or her new meds (blood thinner and cholesterol). Any insight?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
The belching your mom is experiencing may be due to her blood thinner if she is taking aspirin as a blood thinner. Since aspirin is a NSAID it has intense propensity to irritate the GI mucosa. Make sure she has some food in her stomach to minimize this side effect of aspirin. You might also remember include omeperazole 20mg after consulting with her rendering physician to minimize the gastric acid output.

If she is not taking aspirin then you might have to reevaluate with your physician about the probable cause.
