Suggest Treatment For Lower Jaw And Ears

I recently underwent CABG surgery and have (and did have mildly even before surgery) pain in my lower right jaw and ear upon attempting to chew food. I cannot yawn or even blow my nose without pain in that area. I am a teeth-clencher and am sure that prior to surgery and afterwards, I probably gave my jaw hell!! Could that possibly be the problem?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are suffering from lower jaw pain and pain is also there in your ear. Due to pain you cannot yawn, chew or blow your nose. You are a teeth clencher. You have recently under went a CABG surgery. You are suggested to get yourself clinically examined by an ENT. Treatment will depend on the cause / pathology causing you pain and discomfort. If it is ear infection or TMJ, you will be prescribed an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory medication to help reduce your discomfort.

If it is due to dental infection, cavity or other oral / dental problem, it will be treated accordingly. If pain is due to teeth clenching/teeth grinding then a mouth guard can proof to be helpful. Mouth guards can either be purchased at a drugstore and molded to fit your teeth, or you can have one custom-made at your dentist's office.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
