Suggest Treatment For Lower Back Pain And Constipation

Hi, I am 32 years old, with 2 children, my last child was born 3 February 2015. Today I noticed a soft pinkish swelling on my anus, the size of a red beans. Occasionally I would notice they would appear and disappear but in much smaller sizes with no symptoms. I am worried today because this is much bigger and scary. I haven’t had any symptoms such bleeding or mucus, just a slight pain in my lower back and earlier today I had difficulty passing out stool. Could this be pile and how do treat It?

Hi my dear,

I am sorry for the situation you are in.

The pinkish swelling in your anus is a pile as you are also reporting difficulty in passing the stool.

Constipation and hard stool are commonly occurring after delivery. They are often associated with pile due to hardly passing the stool.

With regards to treatment, the very first thing is to prevent/alleviate constipation:
- increase water intake: your needs for water are increased especially if you breastfeed
- eat more foods high in fiber: pear, green leaf, kiwi, etc.
- avoid dairies (e.g. yogurt) as would worsen constipation
- if foods cannot help, start psyllium supplementation to increase fecal mass and senna as laxative and lactulose to soften the stool. If you are breastfeeding, they won't cause any harm in your baby; perhaps more frequent bowel movements.
- keep a good anal hygiene. Apply pile suppositories/cream you find over the counter.

If no improvement, should consult with proctologist for further evaluations.
All the best!
