Suggest Treatment For Low Vitamin D Levels

I am a 70 year old female. Several years ago, I had an appointment with a DR. COWLS (not sure of spelling). I was diagnosed with hyperthyroid and was told that the blood test result was 92. I am still on the synthroid. I lost a total of seventy pounds and felt like a new person. The synthroid has been adjusted adjusted several times over the past years. Several months ago, I , again gained weight, depressed, hot flashes, sore muscles and memory is not as sharp as it was. I had an appointment, in June, with a different doctor. This was recommended by my gynecologist. After many blood tests, scans of my arm muscles, etc. I was told that my Vitamin D was VERY LOW. For approximately 3 months, I took 50,000 units of this vitamin and again lost some weight, hot flashes gone, memory was clearer, no hot flashes, etc. After more blood tests, I received a call from a call from a nurse stating that my levels were still quite low and they increased the Vitamin D2 1.25MG to twice a week. I began this dosage about 3-4 weeks ago. My symptons have returned. Hot flashes, weight loss has slowed down, EXHAUSTED. I was doing better on the 50,000 units than I am on the 100,000 units. I was informed by the nurse that my blood test are still quite low. I am taking synthroid, 150 MCG tablet, once every day. I have been told that my thyroid levels look fine. I do not understand what is going on. I HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM. Sincerely, Karen

Hello,

Your symptoms of hot flashes can be due to decreased estrogen. It's normal in the women of your age group.

Taking hormonal replacement therapy will decrease your hot flashes. Hormonal replacement therapy has several adverse effects also. It's better to consult a gynaecologist and start the therapy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
