Suggest Treatment For Low BP, Coughs And High Heart Rate
Would Midodrine cause my 84 year old hospice patient to have a constant, dry hacking cough. His BP is 144/104, heart rate 106. O2 sat 99% on room air. No idea why this was prescribed as he does not have a history of low BP or orthostatic HTN. He is absolutely miserable at present. Will not lay down. Increased work of breathing for sure but lungs are clear. Not relief with 10mg MS Elixir. I m hoping to understand what changed if anything. He has fine petechiae over his face and nose.
As per your history, blood pressure is on the higher side and from symptoms, it may pneumonitis. You can take tab. Montelukast and Levocetirizine, cough syrup containing Dextromethorphan. She may require antibiotics if having a fever with creps on chest auscultation. Kindly consult with chest physician for detailed examination and treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale,
General & Family Physician
