Suggest treatment for loss of vision and dementia post SLE diagnosis

My sister was diagonised with SLE in 1993 and she has been suffering from fibrosis of lungs ever since. For past one month she has been suffering from loss of vision, jerks and acute Demnetia. Doctors have diagonised CJD after conducting all tests and scans as well as EEG & MRI, as she did not respond to any medications for aforesaid symptoms. My question to is that could SLE play a role in her present ailment after 24 years of its onset ?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

As compared to SLE CJD patients may develop dementia and not respond to medication.

IN SLE Antiphospholipid antibodies might put patients at risk of micro-stroke, they hypothesized. Alternatively, anatomical changes in the brain attributable to the disease or corticosteroid treatments may contribute to cognitive decline.

So please consult your neuro physician he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
