Dear Gery,

I am indeed sorry to read your ultrasonography report mentioning that the baby's heart has stopped after 8 weeks of gestation. I empathize your feelings. If there is no bleeding nor any signs of abortion, you are having missed abortion. There is no medicine nor any miracle in the medical science which will bring back the stopped heart beats. You baby is now non-viable. You will have to undergo termination of pregnancy. I would advice to go for termination at the earliest lest the risk of complications like clooting disorder (DIC) leading to uncontrollable bleeding, infection, etc.

At this stage, the termination may be effected by medicines - Mifepristone and Misoprostol (up to 9 weeks), or by surgical evacuation. Your Obstetrician will take a decision after counselling you.

At this stage of pregnancy, if the embryo has become non-viable, it is most likely due to chromosomal abnormalities which doctors will confirm after examining the embryo after abortion.

You should not loose heart. Once an abortion does not necessarily mean every time abortion. You have good chances to have a normal baby next time.
