Suggest Treatment For Knee Pain

Hi I will start of by saying I am 15 so this is not due to old age. I have a pain in m left knee everyday during my cross country practice. It feels as if air builds up in my knee and my knee cap feels like it is rubbing. My athletic trainer for school used to do a wrap to above and below my knee cap but it didn t work well. I don t experience this pain much after runs it mostly occurs during. It starts to hurt around a mile and the pain gets worse and worse by the end of the 3. I d like to finish this season the way I should and be a top runner but I can t due to this pain. Yes I am icing daily but I will say I haven t talked to my athletic trainer in 4 weeks. What I am really hoping for is a suggestion of a type of brace because I don t want to stop running.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

I have studied your case.

As per your age and history there is possibility of soft tissue injury in knee.
Most commonly meniscus injury occurs.

As per your symptoms you need to do physiotherapy and knee exercises to improve range of motion .
If pain persist then you may need to do MRI again to see for any functional defect.

Small meniscus tear can be managed conservatively with physiotherapy with USG and TENS.
Meniscus injury can be managed by arthroscopic repair.
Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care.
