Suggest Treatment For Itchy Fluid Filled Red Spot On Waist

I had protected sex with a new partner who claimed she was clean 6 days ago (friday), at approximately 3pm. Saturday night at approximately 1am (so a little over 24 hours later), I had an itch just below my waist on the right half of my body, I scratched and some clear liquid came out, so I turned a light on and looked, and a single red spot about half the size of a dime was present. It has since not gotten any worse, but has also not gotten any better. Also no new spots have formed. It ocassionally itches but not a lot and almost not noticeably. I am worried this is an std such as herpes, scabies, or syphilis. But it could also be dry skin, a fungus, etc. However antifungal(loprox) and antibacterial creams both have not worked. Any insight would help. Like I said I am very nervous it could be an std.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

A single itchy blister of this size is most likely to be bullous impetigo- a superficial bacterial infection of the skin. This is usually caused by staphylococcus, and respond well to topical 2% mupirocin cream (I am not aware what agent you have tried).

Apply twice daily for 10 days. If itching is significant, you can take antihistamine like levocetirizine 5 mg at bed time for 3-5 days. If more lesions or surrounding pain and edema develops, kindly see your doctor as this will need oral antibiotics too.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
