Suggest Treatment For Itching And Redness In Eyes And Face

This began yesterday morning as itching and redness of the skin on my face and eyes. Benedryl barely relieved the itch for a few hours. By evening, there was swelling around my eyes and redness on the face. Now it's morning and my eyes are swollen nearly shut and I have wheals and swelling from head to toe. I have never experienced urticaria like this before. Should this be examined at an emergent or urgent care facility?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain itching and redness of the skin on face and eyes followed by swelling around my eyes and redness on the face and progressing to wheals and swelling on entire body seems to be due to severe allergic reaction or Anaphylactic reaction..

It can be due to severe allergy to any food or medication or can be due to any insect bite, poison ivy etc.

As the symptoms are severe and progressive I would suggest you to consult an Emergency room and they can give you emergency treatment like steroid injection and intravenous fluids to reduce swelling and itching..
Once the symptoms start getting better consult an Allergist and get evaluated..

You can be advised allergic tests like Patch test, RAST test, food challenge test etc can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
The tests will help in ruling out the exact cause of the allergen and once you know the cause of the allergic reaction you can avoid exposure to it to prevent allergy attack..

He can be advised to take anti allergics like Levocetrizine or Allegra along with steroids to relieve the symptoms..
He can also be instilled an Immunotherapy that will help in reducing the severity and frequency of allergic attack..
Once the allergen is ruled out avoiding exposure to it can prevent the allergy symptoms..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
