Suggest Treatment For Itching After Cortisone Injections

Two and a half weeks ago I had two cortisone injections, one in my right knee and the other in my left shoulder. The next day I began itching all over my body. There is no rash. I have tried several topical lotions and creams and benadryl tablets. Nothing gives relief for any length of time. Please help.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Welcome to HCM and thanks for the query.
Though cortisone is an anti- allergy medicine, allergic reactions are known side effects of cortisone . It may be from the cortisone itself or from other ingredients like lidocaine which may be added to the cortisone as a local anesthetic.
You could try hydroxyzine which may help or add montelukast which has helped some of my patients with such allergic reactions.
Take Care,
Dr Noble zachariah
