Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have an irregular heart beat. it goes tum tum then a stop and then 4 fast beats and then back to 2 beats and a stop then 4 more fast ones. I feel like my heart is beating out of my body and I can easily feel when it happens and stays for ten or 15 minutes and then goes away for awhile. When I go to my gp ,it does not happen. When it happens I have gone to emerg and they patronize telling me it maybe panic attack. I am a 63 year old woman in prime physical condition, 135 lbs and walk a couple of miles a day at a fast rate. I will not go back to emerg as they make me feel like I am a hypochondriac. shoould I see a cardiooligist?

hi this irregular heart beat what you sense are palpitations, there are many reasons for these problem. it can be due to an electrolyte imbalance especially potassium or calcium, variations in thyroid levels, cardiac problems,(either related to the valves or cardiac muscle/ischaemia )acute painful conditions, infections, severe anaemia. i would suggest you to first visit the cardiologist, to rule out for any cardiac problems, if this seems normal , please get evaluated for all the investigations haemogram, serum electrolytes & thyroid profile. all the best take care
