Suggest Treatment For Intermittent Tooth Abcesses

I have had an on again off again tooth abcess. Was on an antibiotic. Also my urine is dark and smells strong. I have no itching or burning. My partner is now complaining off burning only when he urinates. Could he have gotten an infection from me having a tooth infection?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain in case if you have a deeply decayed tooth it can lead to infection reaching the region below the root tips of the tooth causing infection and pus formation in that region which accumulates in the soft tissues causing abscess formation..

When you take antibiotics the infection reduces to some extent and the abscess seems to subside but when the antibiotics are stopped the infection recurs and cause recurrence of abscess..

Dark colour and smell of urine can be due to discolouration caused by the edible dye colour present in medicines..

For permanent relief you should consult a dentist and get evaluated and in case the tooth can be saved Root canal treatment followed by antibiotics and painkillers can relieve or else extraction can be done..

Burning during urination are symptoms of urinary tract infection and your husband getting it from you is possible in case of your oral communication with his private part but the chances are less but cant be neglected..

He can consult a Urologist and get a urine culture done to rule out if there is any infection and get treated accordingly..

Hope this information helps..

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you have intermittent tooth abscess which occurs because of infection causing organisms in your oral cavity and because of large carious lesions and this tooth infection can spread to blood stream and leads to septicemia. As your partner got infection from you it is because of blood related transfusion of septicemia.

I would suggest you to visit dentist once and get IOPA done to check level of bone damage and extension of lesion.

Go for root canal treatment of respective tooth. Maintain hygiene by brushing and flossing daily.

Take antimicrobial mouth wash. Do warm saline gargles and betadine gargles as well.

If tooth is not restorable go for extraction of that tooth.

Visit general practitioner once and consult for burning sensations while urinating.

HOPE YOUR CONCERN HAS BEEN RESOLVED.
Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
