I live in New York and suffer from insomnia. I was thinking about going to my doctor and asking for an Ambien prescription. That would require my taking a drug test under state law. I have never used any illegal drugs but I am reading lots of stories about false positives on drug tests. What are the legal ramifications of having a false positive on one of these tests? Do you risk arrest for something you didn t do? Will you be blacklisted from ever receiving certain types of medications?
False positive on drug tests are actually very rare. A positive test does not mean you will be arrested, as doctors do not report drug use to authorities. There is also no blacklist that exists for medications. But mixing illegal drugs with prescription medications is very dangerous, so doctors take every precaution to keep you safe.
