Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have recently been bitten by an insect, i think horse fly. I was bitten yesterday eve whilst walking the dogs and today i have very red swollen area just below my eye. Its very painful and seems to have only what I can describe is a puss forming underneath the skin. What do you think?
I have gone through your query and can understand..
As per your complain pus formation at the site of insect bite can be due to infection in the region of bite leading to abscess formation and you need to take a course of antibiotics like Augmentin and metronidazole, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, anti allergics like Levocetrizine and apply triple antibiotic ointment and steroid ointment over it.. You can also do cool compresses over it.. Avoid scratching it to prevent further inflammation and infection.. In case if the condition worsen or there is no improvement in one week consult a General Physician and get evaluated and if it is an abscess incision and drainage can be done..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
