Suggest Treatment For Ingrown Hair On Inner Thighs

I keep getting ingrown hairs on my inner thighs that usually turn into painful cysts. I say cysts because when I puncture and drain them (which is extremely painful) there is a lot more pus and blood than a regular pimple or ingrown hair on my face. I don t shave my inner thighs and I know friction may be a contributor but could it be something else? Once they are drained they heal very quickly but leave a scar. I m not overly concerned with the scars.

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of ingrown hair on inner thighs which could be due to fungal infection of thighs mainly Tinea, as it localizes on body folds and thigh area. It could be due to frictional heat generation.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to stake oral tablets of Terbinafine for 1 week. You should clean the skin with soap and cold water and apply petroleum jelly. Apply moderately potent topical steroid of triamcinolone acetonide 0.1% cream twice daily at affected sites.

You should visit dermatologist once and get it examined and start treatment after proper prescription. Take tablet of cetirizine 10 mg once daily for symptomatic relief from itching.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
