Suggest Treatment For Infected Tonsils

Thank you in advance for your assistance with my question. I am a 24 y/o male and I have an infected tonsil that started 2 weeks ago after a lengthy day working face-to-face (no pun intended) as a professional face painter/balloon artist, with about 100-150 individuals served that day (much more than usual). The flesh is infected and slightly soft and caved in right past the U shaped hard pallet after top molars and can t afford a doctor unless urgent. Most complain about swelling but it seems only back bumpy part in throat is puffy, and making it hard to swallow like there s something there. I used to snort some pills from age 20-22, but haven t since and never more than what was recommened daily as oral dose (still terrible, but giving you estimated volume). Haven t had much nasal issues since, and I take a lot of proper vitamins, antioxidants, and brush teeth as recommended. I m about to just go ahead and try to pass what I suspect is puss or tonsil stones gently, but thought i d ask in case nothing happens or it s a terrible idea, saw it recommended as first attempt on other medical site. Thanks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
Thank You for contacting HCM.

I read your query carefully.
I would like to advise you following:
>Get enough rest
>Drink warm to ease throat pain
>Eat soft food or diet (semisolid kind off), it will be easy to swallow.
>Gargle with warm salt water thrice a day.
>Suck on lozenges containing benzocaine or other anesthetics.
>Take over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
> I would start you on amoxicilin/clavulanic acid 625mg thrice a day for 7 days. (It is a prescription medicine so you need to visit nearest doctor to get it)

If i would be your treating doctor, i would also advised you to,
Go for swab culture test.
And then according to that start antibiotic.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow
up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us.
Wishing you good health.
