Suggest Treatment For Increased Triglycerides Levels

Hi, I am 30 have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes (in 2004 and my A1C was 13) but I have controlled it by diet since then and it was 5.9 from 2005 to 2010. I thought I was doing so well but my triglycerides went up (always normal) to 183 and my A1C went to 6.2 in September. I have not been tested since, but my NP will not prescribe my birth control pills which I have taken for 11 years. Should I be concerned? I am in grad school and I am sitting down about 80 hours a week but I saw a nutritionist and she told me I was eating well (correct balance of whole grains, protein, low fat, low sodium, lots of vegetable and omega3 rich foods), and to eat more!

Hello and welcome to HCM,
High triglyceride levels requires life style modification as well as medication to lower triglyceride level.
The normal level of triglyceride should be below 150 mg/dl.
Thus, consult your physician for prescription of drugs to lower triglyceride levels.
High triglyceride levels along with type 2 diabetes mellitus have deleterious effect on cardiac health.

Thanks and take care
