Suggest Treatment For Inconsistent Bowel Movement

HI! Since 1997, I ve had my gall bladder removed, 2 ERCP s, which resulted in pancreatitis for a week, and the Sphincter of Oddi has been cut open twice - during the ERCP s. I m female, 78, and I am experiencing, from time to time, 4-6 days of bowel incontinence - oozing stuff the consistency of slightly thinned peanut butter, and about the same color. No real diahrrea, no vomiting, no liver area pain, some bile reflux and vague nausea, I use Welchol because I m allergic to the statins, and add some Colestipol when I leak. This is intolerable. What s wrong and what can I do?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of inconsistent bowel movement. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like gastroenteritis, lactose intolerance, irritable bowel syndrome, medication reaction or side-effect, food poisoning or viral gastroenteritis and mainly due to lack of fibres in diet leading to constipation. Need not to worry. You should give diet to child rich in fibres. I would suggest you to avoid eating heavy and spicy , eat small and frequent meals, eat 1-2 banana in a day and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain. You should take plenty of fluids. If condition doesn't get well then consult gastroenterologist for proper examination. Doctor may order certain tests like endoscopy and stool test and take history. Doctor may prescribe loperamide , ornidazole along with anti inflammatory.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
