I m a 70 yr old male minister with Type 1 diabetes since I was 11. For the last few years I ve had balance issues, manifested in side stepping, unsteadiness on my feet, inabililty to climb easily (even on a step ladder), but with no manifest pain. Your thoughts
Dear friend,as you have said you have diabetes for a long time ,you can have peripheral nervous system problem due to diabetic state.and it can manifest as lack of balance problem.but another reason can be,due to old-age brain shrinkage the particular part of your brain which is responsible for perfect stepping and balance,is getting affected.very commonly a CT scan of brain can throw some useful light on the structural changes of brain.so please go for a CT scan before going to a physician.thank you.
