Suggest Treatment For Hypothyroidism

Dear Dr. I was diag. with hypo thyroid in late 2001 and was on .125 synthroid for around 8 years until Nov. of 2009 when I had started feeling bad agoin before my yearly exam. I had my exam in Nov. 2009 and my thyroid had shot up to over 10 from a 3.4. I was put on a higher dose .150 and have been taking it for around 6-7 months but my periods are now every two months and for the past 10 days or so I have had a sore throat around the base of the neck and left side nothing on the right side. This is like swollen glands it hurts when I cough of clear my throat and sore to the touch around the base of the neck(left side only). I am only seeing my primary care physician and have tried to get her to check for Hashimotos due to the fact my sister was diagnosed a couple years ago but she seems unwilling or as long as my thyroid is within range she is satisfied. This new dose has my thyroid the lowest it has ever been 1.34 I had felt pretty good up until the last few days or so. I feel tired and some congestion not bad just irritating. I am worried that the thyroid my be causing my symptoms. I have heard good and bad about endocrinologist so not sure how to proceed here. My sister has been taken off of synthroid and taking armour twice a day(splits her pills) and said she is doing much better. I am wondering what you may suggest as to what my soreness maybe and should I find a endocrinologist here locally? I do not have any other medical issues. I am not sure a trip to my regular dr. will be enough or just a quick fix type of thing. I took her a questionaire about Hashi s and she just stuck it in my file. I need someone to give me an idea of what mybe going on here and whom should I see?? confused. Thank you, Thresa W

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms you described are not due to Hashimoto thyroiditis. I would recommend an ultrasound of the neck to have an opinion about the swelling you mentioned. Continue with 150 mcg euthirox.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mirjeta Guni, Endocrinologist
