Suggest Treatment For Hives

I am on vacation and went to urgent care last night because I have red splotches over my entire body - I had already taken benydryl thinking it was hives but not itchy at all and not very raised like hives - but all over! Dr gave me a shot of prednisone and more 24 hrs later not any better - should I go to hospital?

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. as per your query you have hives. There are some factors which are not in our hands like our environment , heat , cold , pressure and sun exposure . It is the bodies response to the trigger factor . Insect bite , pollen and some plants can also cause hives .

The most important thing is to find the trigger factor so that it can be avoided. I would suggest you to give cold compresses to hives several times a day to prevent from swelling and itching and take over the counter antihistamine drug like benadryl. If symptoms still persist the consult dermatologist for proper examination and treatment . Doctor may perform skin test and challenge to find out the trigger factor . Doctor may prescribe other steroid cream , anti inflammatory drug or drugs that can suppress immune system .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
