Suggest Treatment For Hives

I broke out in hives and welts after taking Tricor for 5 days. I discontinued the medication 5 days ago and saw my PCP. I continue to have red, itchy areas all over my body, especially hands and feet. The other day it looked as if I had diaper rash. Darker red slightly raised sections appear and then disappear. I am itching all over despite being on Prednisone and Benadryl for 5 days. What is going on?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain Tricor contains active ingredient finofibrate and hives, rashes and welts seems to be an allergic reaction to the medication..
As you have discontinued the intake of the medicine, and taking anti allergics like Benadryl and steroid like Prednisolone, gradually the symptoms will subside as the medicine will get removed from the body completely..
You are getting recurring itching and rash as the medicine might have not completely flushed out of the body..
As you do not have any other symptoms you need not to worry as gradually the symptoms will subside..
You should continue taking the medications to relieve itching and along with it apply steroid ointment over the rashes and do cool compresses..
Apply Calamine lotion..
In case if there is no improvement in a week consult your treating physician and he can advise injectable steroids..
You can also be advised to undergo allergic tests to confirm the cause and check whether there is any other irritant also that might be causing symptoms and will be treated accordingly.

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
