Suggest Treatment For Hives On The Face And The Neck

Yes, I have recently been taking Prednisone to rid myself of a rash I received after getting into some poison sumac . The areas affected have since cleared . But I had to quit taking the Prednisone for which it has caused me to break out in hives on my face and neck . Is this a side effect of the steroid and how long before that clears ?

Hi.
As per your case history you are having urticaria.
My treatment advice is -
1. Avoid fast food and food with artificial colors for 2 months.
2. Apply a soothing lotion like calamine lotion when lesions appear.
3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for 7-10 days.
4. Other treatment options are oral steroid, hydroxyzine taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Thanks.
Dr. Harshit bhachech.
