Suggest Treatment For High Fever In A Child

My son was out in the sun yesterday. He is 20 months old. He seems to be teething. He has been fighting a high fever- over 104 on and off since last night. We have been giving him ibuprofen and acetaminophen which brings it down for a while and also had him in a Luke warm bath for a while. He does not appear to be burned or sick except moaning/ somewhat inconsolable until the medicine kicks back in when his fever is high. When it is brought down he is playful and acts fine.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I am sorry for the high fever your child is going through.

From what you are describing, I can say that the high fever might be related to:
- heat exposure
- teething

Keep giving him ibuprofen alternating with paracetamol for the next couple of days. Give him plenty of fluids (water, tea, juice, tresol) to keep him well hydrated to combat the fever.

If after 3 days of starting the fever, it will continue as high as 39 degrees, then, should send him to pediatrician to rule out possible bacterial infection.

Wish fast recovery!
