Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i am 65 years of age. my blood pressure was 139/86 and the doctor told me that no medication was required. since two months my blood pressure has increased to 160/90. my doctor has asked to take a couple of more readings. he has not yet prescribed any medicine yet. i walk 4-5 kilometers every day and exercise for 30 minutes daily. i have no other health problem except slight acidity. is my blood pressure is alarmingly high. i am 5ft 9inches tall and weigh 71 kgs. please guide me.
The additional readings would determine if your blood pressure would improve or continue at its current level. It is best to take them at different points during the day to get an overall picture.
It would be best not to delay treatment beyond another 1 to 2 weeks because this would bring you to almost 3 months at this blood pressure. It needs to be decreased.
The blood pressure goals for persons over 60 have changed from 140/90 to 150/90. This means that your bp needs to decrease to at least 150/90.
Despite your healthy lifestyle, you would likely need medication to achieve this.
I hope this helps
