Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello Dr. My mother's blood pressure goes high 230/120. it happens often. She had this high blood pressure tow times in last 5 days. She went to emergency room and they treated her however we are worried how can we control her blood pressure. She is stressed most of the time due to family issues.
Those values are very high and must be treated to avoid serious complications in the future. There are many drugs of different classes out there, like beta-blockers (metoprolol, bisoprolol), ACE inhibitors (lisinopril, ramipril), ARBs (irbesartan, candesartan), diuretics (thiazides), calcium channel blockers (amlodipin) etc. In some patients blood pressure can be controlled with only the one drug, in others a combination of two or more is needed. Without knowing her age, other medical conditions, results of some necessary lab and imaging tests, I can't recommend a specific medication. They are all prescription drugs anyway, so you should choose the most appropriate one/s with your family doctor or a cardiologist.
I hope to have been of help.
