Suggest Treatment For High BP And Headache In A Person With Schizophrenia

Hello, I am a 58 yr old female being treated for high blood pressure, Type II diabetes (IDDM), and schizophrenia. I just checked my blood pressure and it is 153/100. I have a headache as well. My BP does run high occasionally. A friend advised me to go lay down for a while to see if it would lower on its own. Should I seek immediate care now or just report to my primary care in the next few days?

Hello,

Since you have history of hypertension and presently are suffering from headache and high blood pressure, you are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP. You need medicines to control BP. High blood pressure left untreated may cause heart problems, CAD, stroke, chest pain, kidney dysfunction, damage to your eyes, persistent headache, etc.

Get cardiac function tests done to stay on the safer side. In the meantime, stay at rest and avoid anxiety and stressful lifestyle. Take plenty of water & cut on salt intake. If obese maintain healthy weight. Switch to healthy eating habits. Take food that keeps your blood pressure to the lower side like moringa, berries, beans, lentils, pistachios, carrots, celery, tomatoes, etc.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
