Suggest Treatment For Herpes Simplex Viral Infection

Thank you for your free services. As it was written briefly there is no cure for herpes simplex virus. If someone has been stayed with herpes simplex for 24 years, what is solution for that person except praying to God ? If infants or children below 5years caught by this disease infection associated with skin and eye itching, What you say about it? sorry for my poor English language. Is there free medication and support as HIV virus?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Unfortunately, there is no medication that can cure herpes simplex infection. Antivirals like acyclovir can decrease the duration and severity of illness. Recurrent flare-ups can be suppressed to an extent by long term acyclovir therapy. Herpes simplex lesions in infants especially in the eye require immediate treatment as it can cause blindness. So always avoid contact with children when you are having active lesions.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal
