Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my friend has an irregular heartbeat ranging from 123 to 44 with decending aortic pain and seems to be in a fib, right atrium greater than left, some bruits in left coratid and having periodic left eye partial visual field blindness. I feel that a fib is going to casuse a stroke-he wont go to a dr, his bp is controlled with diet and an occasional lininopril. I just gave him 400 nmg magnesium and a lisinipril
Your friend needs a cardiology check up. Arrhythmia such as atrial fibrillation is a serious condition and needs specific treatment. An ECG should be done, and if there is atrial fibrillation, treatment should be started. There are several options; 1. if your friend's left atrium is not enlarged moderately, cardioversion may be considered 2. in case cardioversion is not appropriate, rate control should be done, usually it is done with beta blockers, or Ca channel blockers. In the case of rate control, there may be a need for anticoagulation treatment as well.
Hope I could help you
