Suggest Treatment For Headaches And Sinus Infection

My name is Gabby. I have been having bad headaches that started to occur daily. I had an appointment with my doctor on Thursday. She said she thinks I have tension headaches and sinus headaches due to a sinus infection because she noticed I had a small temperature and my nose was swollen on the inside. She prescribed me with Amoxicillin and told me to take Aleve to reduce the inflammation in the nose and a Neti Pot. I have done these since Thursday and haven't had luck. The pressure on the bridge of my nose has been very bad and has left me in a lot of pain today. I called back and she was certain that it's still sinuses and told me to take Sudafed with everything else I've been doing. Just noticed some slight blurryiness in my eyes as well. I went and got a Cat scan before my doctor appointment because I was worried and the results all came back clear. Do you think everything is okay and that is is indeed sinuses?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The symptoms of headache and swelling on the inside of nose and nasal pressure can be probably due to sinus infection, however, for confirmation proper investigation has to be done.

I would suggest you to consult an otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like PNS view x-ray or MRI scan can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.

You can be advised a course of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, decongestants like Pseudoephedrine, do saline nasal irrigation, steam inhalation, and use a humidifier in your room. You can also be advised decongestant nasal sprays containing Xylometazoline or Oxymetazoline. Avoid spicy and chilled foods. Do warm compresses around nostrils.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora
