Suggest Treatment For Headaches And Cold

Hello, I am wondering if you would have any advise for me on my headaches and the fact that I am almost always cold. I have some form of headache almost every day. Most days they are more annoying than anything, and 2 Ib prophen will take it way. I get migraines about 2-3 times a month. I know when they are coming on due to the vision loss in one eye. Once when I was about 20 (I am 27 now) my boss actually took me to the ER because he thought I was having a stroke, which turned out to be migraine Paralysis on one side of my body. I am now starting to worry that I may be doing more harm than good by taking headache medicine every day. Secondly, is the feeling of being cold. At work my co workers call my office the sauna . In the summer while my family was swimming, I was wearing a sweatshirt. Just last night I was shivering, wearing sweatpants, sweatshirt, and covered up with a blanket. When I got up to turn up the heat it said the temperature was 71 degrees. Should I be concerned about my health? I do take vitamins, but could I be missing something?

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM! I read your question carefully and understand your concern.

Regarding your daily headaches, I think it is a chronic daily headache which is commonly overlapping with migraine attacks.

The regular use of painkillers for a long time can lead to medical induced headache, which is a chronic daily headache with the same characteristics as you describe.

So I would advise you to avoid taking painkillers, try to manage your headache without drugs and start on an antidepressant like amytriptiline or sertraline. It will help with your daily headache and reduce the frequency and severity or migraine attacks.

Regarding your intolerance to the cold, I would recommend you to perform a cortisol plasma levels and thyroid hormone levels.
Sometimes a dysfunction of the thyroid or adrenal glands can cause this clinical scenario.

Hope to have been helpful!

Greetings! Dr. Aida
