Suggest Treatment For Headache And Light Sensitivity

i get real bad headaches and migraines. im light sensitive, have a nerve or artery that gets inflamed once in a while, which runs by my left temple. with light sensitivity, the pain is more near my forehead. with the other, the pain is off to the left front of my head. but what would be causing tbe stabbing pains i get right on the top of my head? last time this happened, i swear there was a lump on top of my head from it. it lasted about ten mins before it went away. i am only 37 years old.

Hi,

As per your query about migraine which is accompanied by intense, pulsating and stabbing pain with sensitivity to light may be due to tension or stress and high blood pressure. Migraine is usually preceded by aura which occurs just before pain attack like visual hallucinations. The exact cause of migraine is not known yet but believed that certain electro-chemical waves passes in brain as a result of triggering factors.

You need to keep a track on the triggering factors which may be any likes smoking, alcohol abuse. Excessive stress over exposure to sunlight, fasting, stomach upset panic attacks. Avoid such situations and consult a physician who may advice you test like CT scan and MRI. Also get your blood pressure checked.

Drugs like antidepressants and Sumatriptan are used only after advice of a physician. As of now I advice you to do following:

- Take paracetamol tablets when you suspect a migraine attack.
- Do yoga and meditation or stress relieving exercises.
- Take proper sleep 8hrs.
- Get an CT scan done to rule out any other cause of pain.

I hope the information helps you. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care.

Regards,
Dr. Jyoti Pandey
