Suggest Treatment For Headache And High BP

My father was hospitalized today with severe headaches, numbness in fingers and toes, dizziness, and high blood pressure. He never has any of these symptoms and he NEVER complains. We were sent home when his CT scan showed nothing. Any idea what it could be?

Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

His symptoms could be related to a hypertensive crisis. A thyroid dysfunction or an electrolyte imbalance could cause this clinical scenario too.

Coming to this point, I would recommend you to closely monitor his blood pressure, frequently during the day in the next week (in sitting position after 10 minutes of total relax) and note them down.

If his blood pressure values are above the normal ranges (140/90 mm Hg) most of the time, you should consult with his doctor and perform additional tests to investigate for the possible underlying causes (renal and liver function, blood electrolytes, thyroid hormone levels, etc.).

Anti-hypertensive therapy may be needed.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
