Suggest Treatment For Hair Loss While On Medication For Hypothyroidism

I am 36 years old facing a problem of thinning hair . I have always had very silky straight hair . The quality of hair was always thin but the quantity was good . Now my scalp has started showing . I suffer from hypothyroidism (from 2 years) for which i have been having Thyronorm 50mcg regularly empty stomach in the mornings . My TSH and FT 4 levels are under control , yet my hair loss continues . I feel I have a problem of less hair growing , rather than losing hair . Pl suggest , if I should go to a gynaec to get my homone levels checked or visit a dermatologist or a tricologist like Richfeel or dr Batras.

Hair loss in women can definitely be a sign of hypothyroidism, but if your TSH and FT4 were normal than I would not recommend changing your dose of Thyronorm. Getting your hormones checked is not unreasonable, but you are a bit early for menopause so it would be surprising they were abnormal. I would recommend starting with a Dermatologist instead if you want to speak with a specialist. They might prescribe Minoxidil (Rogaine in the US).

In the meantime, try to reduce stress as large stress levels on the body can also lead to hair loss.
