My sister-in-law is 49 and started developing generalized edema about 2 weeks after having some sort of injection in the neck; I m guessing for pain control? (Some sort of steroid? possibly). I am not sure they are fairly private and she is one who does not like attention especially when not feeling well. She has been to her primary doctor and had a cardiac workup (Her father died young (mid 40 s to 50 s) of cardiac heart failure (my understanding with the info I know). Cardiac workup as far as they have told me was negative (cardiac echo); EKG showed some electrical impulse block as stated by them. She is tired; can t do more than 7 min. on a stationary bike without out shortness of breath and chest pain; large amount of generalized edema (I haven t seen her in person since she has had the swelling; not sure if it s pitting? how bad? According to her and my brother it s really bad (for her). The doctor gave her lasix which helped for a few days; (then she took it upon herself to double the lasix :( All she wants to do is sleep. She has been to primary care several times; and the Emergency Department. No one can give them answers...... Do you suggest a teaching/research hospital ED (waiting for insurance approval for other opinions outside of her insurance network)? Frustrating to see someone so young and who we love deteriorating. The doctor seems to be focusing on the injections and cardiac heart failure.... thinking maybe missing something else?? Any advice and or suggestions welcome...... PS She is very very stubborn!!
