Suggest Treatment For Frequent Nose Bleeds

My husband just experienced a prolonged 1/2 hour, profuse bleeding from both nostrils. Blood pressure was a good 119/67. Unfortunately, his pulse rate was 91-95. Should we have gone to the emergency room? He has had nose bleeds in the past, but this was the worse.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

I would advise you the following in such a condition:
- Rush to the ER for nasal packing if the bleeding continues
- Ice-cold fomentation
- Lying in propped up position
- Put ice cube in mouth also
- Consult an ENT Surgeon for nasal endoscopy, clinical evaluation, investigations like bleeding time, clotting time, prothrombine time to see for any alteration
- Stop Aspirin or Deplatt-A like blood thinners if he is on such medicines
- Further management as per the findings, one of it is ligation of Spheno-palatine arteries ion both sides

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
